About John.
John Robins is a multi-decade entrepreneur and the editor-in-chief of The FIRE Pathway. He founded Integrated Sales & Marketing and The Job Market Pty Ltd, building both into established Australian-market businesses through several full economic cycles.
His interest in financial independence is personal. Since 2021, John has worked systematically through FIRE methodology, safe-withdrawal-rate research, tax-advantaged investing across jurisdictions, and the long-horizon math behind early-retirement planning — with the explicit goal of building a multi-generational financial framework for his family.
That study is grounded in practice. John owns and manages residential real estate in both Australia and the United States, navigating the practical differences between two tax systems, two mortgage markets, and two sets of landlord regulations — the kind of cross-border financial detail most FIRE content treats abstractly.
As editor-in-chief, John reviews every article published on The FIRE Pathway before it goes live: checking sources against primary documents (IRS publications, ATO rulings, peer-reviewed research, Federal Reserve and BLS data), pressure-testing calculator methodology, and ensuring the editorial standards spelled out at /editorial-standards are upheld on every piece. Articles he personally authors from 2026 forward are signed accordingly; articles produced by The FIRE Pathway editors before his editorship are flagged with the date he reviewed them.
John is based in Sydney, Australia.
What he covers.

- Real-estate-led FIREHouse hacking, multi-property portfolios, the practical landlord economics that determine whether real estate actually accelerates FI.
- Cross-border financial planningThe asymmetries between AU and US retirement systems, capital-gains treatment, and currency-risk management for portfolios that live in both.
